A Message from your RTB President

Happy Summer RTB Members!!

Well, it has been a real long road, but we are starting to see the return of in person events post-pandemic! RTB AALAS is starting with our famous RTB AALAS Golf and Cornhole Tournaments in September – You read that right – it’s back for 2021! Is anyone interested in helping coordinate the cornhole game or have a set of boards we can borrow for the day? Please let us know.

A big shoutout to our three fantastic speakers at Tech Night – and to those who attended our live virtual event. Congrats to our door prize winners too! If you won one of the $20 gift cards and didn’t receive it, please let us know.

A recording of the event is available by request if you’re interested in the following topics:

"Can Essential Oils Help Decrease Aberrant Behaviors in Rhesus Macaques?" by Bonnie Bowell

"Hot Pursuit- A Monkey's Eyes Never Lie" by Stefanie Tokiyama

"Drip, Drop, How do I Make it Stop? Leaky Lixits and Flooded Cages" by Lisa Webb

Please take a few minutes to vote in the National AALAS Election if you are a member! Speaking of elections – We will need nominees for President Elect for 2022. This is a three-year term, starting with President Elect (Year 1), President (Year 2), Past President (Year 3). No experience on the Executive Board is required, since the first year is a training year, so if you think you might be interested now or in the future, please reach out to me! Other options for involvement are on our committees, so if you’d like to learn more about RTB and help plan some events let us know!

Last but certainly not least, we have added two dates for upcoming Carolina Tiger Rescue work days with behind the scenes tours in November. If you’ve never been with us before, it’s quite the experience! Come ready to work hard, but also see some really cool cats up close and personal. Registration will be available to members only on the RTB website. If you’ve got friends who want to join, now is the time to get in on these exciting events!

Looking forward to seeing you all in person again soon! Thanks for sticking with us!

Emily

The Homes for Animal Heroes Virtual 5K is back, and we need your help more than ever this year! Homes for Animal Heroes is now in 15 states, including North Carolina, and they partner with research organizations to help rehome retired research dogs. The annual virtual 5K has been the main fundraiser for this organization since it started in 2017. Due to the difficulties everyone faced last year, the decision was made to cancel the 2020 run. However, as Homes for Animal Heroes continues to grow, your support is greatly needed.

RTB AALAS has formed a team and we want YOU! Please join our team through this link (https://www.justgiving.com/team/rtbaalas) and help us raise funds and awareness for this worthy cause. While our branch will hold an in-person 5K dog walk/ run in the fall (date/ time TBD), you don't have to commit to participating in our physical event- you can run or walk your 5K anywhere, at any time. As an added incentive, any individual who joins our team and raises $25 or more will receive an additional $25 donation added to their personal campaign from RTB AALAS. Check out the fundraising page for more info on PRIZES you can earn as you raise more money, too! We feel this is a great cause, and we hope you'll join us.

Raise $25: run medal

Raise $30, and indicate on follow up survey that you're walking with your dog: run medal + dog tag

Raise $100: ultra soft race t-shirt

Raise $250: socks featuring the face of an adorable retired research beagle

Raise $500: embroidered jacket

Raise $750: engraved Yeti tumbler

Raise $1,000+: award engraved with your name as a top fundraiser for Homes for Animal Heroes

Here's how to join!

First, visit this page: https://www.justgiving.com/team/rtbaalas and join our team, "RTB AALAS- Running for Research Heroes."
